-
At IPC we understand how challenging the first few days of pre-school can be for both the child and the parents. To enable your child to adjust easily on their first few days of school we have implemented a 3-day settling-in policy.
1.) On the first day you can accompany your child to school and stay for a while (or the whole morning), in the classroom in order to settle and reassure your child. Some parents choose to make the first day a shorter morning. We will monitor your child to see if this is required.
2.) On the second day you may accompany your child to the classroom and spend an appropriate period of time with him/her. When the teacher feels the time is right, say a cheerful goodbye and leave the classroom, reassuring your child that you will be back after school. You have the option of remaining on the school premises, but you should be out of sight of your child. Our teachers are experienced at calming children who may become upset at the first separation from their parents. However, should the teacher find that she needs your help in calming your child, they will then seek you out.
3.) On the third day, in order for your child to develop a relationship with the teacher and the other children in class, you can settle you child and then leave the premises. Try not to be tense and gently but firmly explain to your child that you will be back. A small child's concept of time is almost non-existent and a three hour morning may seem like a very long time, so please pick up your child on time at the end of the school day.
The child will now have a measure of confidence and independence and will be able to integrate in to the normal class routine after the 3 day period.
There are times, however, when the teacher may feel that a certain child is not ready to separate from his /her parents. In such a case, the teacher will discuss the situation with the parent. Sometimes the child will remain at home for another month or so before trying again. We have enjoyed great success on the second try in such cases. It is vital that the pre-school experience not be distressing to a young child and we hope for your co-operation in such instances.
Talking about school in the morning and going over the positive experiences of your child's day at school, plus the constant reassurance from all of us at IPC, will help your child quickly settle in and enjoy the time spent with us. - - Do the children follow a curriculum?
-
At IPC we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of the British Curriculum. However, we combine our 30 years of our experience purely in this age group, we are able to offer a well-balanced curriculum based on the child's age and stage of development. To expand your child's early development we offer many activities that reinforce the work in the classroom. For a detailed curriculum outline please contact us or visit the 'Curriculum' page.
- - What activities does IPC offer?
-
We offer a range of special activities for the children. We have a purpose built Activity Room for Music & Movement, Drama, Mini Movers (Nursery) and Mind & Body Balance (Kindergarten). We have a fully equipped Art and Pottery Studio, a Science/ Discovery/ Cooking Room and a Space Ship themed Computer Room/Library. Please visit our ‘Specialist Subjects’ page to find out more. Our shaded garden area and playground provide space for the Water Fun Centre and the Nature Corner where the IPC tortoises live and for free play (pictures can be found on the ‘IPC Campus' page.) Children are under constant supervision for their safety and well being.
We offer a great variety of afterschool activities as well. We have Ballet, Baba-grow (gymnastics & more), Cooking, Art, Drama, Science, Ethnic Dance, Glee Club, Music and Playgroups. - - Do the children receive a snack?
-
We offer the children snacks mid-morning in class. The teachers use this opportunity daily to stress self-help, sharing and good table manners. Children prepare their own snacks if possible (i.e. spreading jam and butter on bread). We offer a rotating selection of nutritious snacks including fruit and milk everyday. We also serve freshly cooked lunches which is optional although highly recommended as lunch-time is a great learning opportunity to develop independent eating.
- - Is transportation available to take my child to school?
-
We do not offer transportation services due to the small intimate atmosphere we maintain at IPC. We encourage parents, grandparents, guardians to drop off and pick up their children when possible. This allows us to update families on their child's progress on a daily basis.
- - What is the policy on my child taking an extended leave of absence or a vacation?
-
IPC operates in a three term system (end of August - December, January - Mid April, Mid April - end of June). (Early July - August the school stays open and offers a seperate summer school programme.) The school is open all year round except for 2-3 weeks over the Christmas period and two weeks the Thai New Year. At IPC we strictly limit the number of children per class and we also have a waiting list of children wanting to join us.
We encourage parents to take their vacation during our school holidays as we do not give "make up" days for missed days.
